Devi Movie Review

Director AL Vijay is known for his versatile film-making in different genres and he has tried the horror comedy genre in the film “Devi” and the film has turned out to be a neat entertainer. This film is also the comeback for Prabhudeva and Tamanna is playing the lead female role in the film.

The biggest positive of the film is the performance of its lead pair. Tamanna delivers one of her best performance in this film and she shows great variations while performing as an actress and a homely housewife under single character. Prabhudeva underplays his role and gives more scope for Tamannah to perform. Prabhudeva’s elegant dance movements in Chalmaar song is treat to watch. Prabhudeva’s humor in the film is super funny and RJ Balaji adds more magic to the comic scenes. Tamannah too has performed a stunning dance in the film and the work she put to do this is clearly seen in the film. Sonu sood’s performance could have been in a different manner as it gave a feel of a Bollywood film than a Tamil film.

Music by Sajid-Wajid is foot-tapping and peppy. His Rangoli song enriches the situation in the film and his background score is too good and carries the film forward. Visuals of Manush-Nandan are enchanting and the way he showcased Village and marriage scenes are wizardry. Editing by Antony is crisp and this makes the film more engaging with non boring moments.

Director Vijay has packaged the film in such a way that it provides great entertainment to the audience. He has handled the ghost factor in an unique manner instead of trying to provide thrill or revenge factors to the ghost. This type of treatment is the greatest strength of the film and his story is simple and neat without much complications. This film shows creative and divergent thinking of Vijay as he has broken the barriers of horror comedy genre this film is a lesson for those who make horror comedy films with same no out of the box templates. When it comes to downsides, as the film is made as a multilingual, it fails to establish pure Tamil nativity connect. Other than the lead pair, other characters in the film have less scope to perform and have less screen space.

Devi is a neatly packed entertainer and it redefines the format of horror comedy genre. Simple storyline with proper treatment with top class performance and strong technical values makes this film a completely engaging ride. Pure time-pass popcorn entertainer!

VERDICT: Unique entertaining horror comedy film from director Vijay
